Peek at the Week

This week in Writing we will focus on goal setting, editing, table of contents, planning and writing chapters and writing with details. In Reading we will focus on learning new words as we read, finding and thinking about key words, re-reading a page to the find the just right sound, sharing interesting things, and reading with feeling. We will start chapter 4 in Math. This is subtraction using all the different strategies.

This is the last week for helping hands. We are only 47 items away from our next goal. Keep sending in those household items!

Book Fair is this week.

Winter Festival: We are looking forward to a magical time this Saturday from 9-12 at our Winter Festival.  Get your Winter Festival tickets with all the proceeds going to our Helping Hands families. We still need a few volunteers too.  Here are the links:

Peek at the Week

This week we are starting our Nonfiction Reading Unit. We will talk about learning from our sneak peak, studying one page can teach so much, readers learn by chatting about what's happening, readers reread to make sure they understand what's happening, and working on fluency.

In Writing we are also starting our Nonfiction Unit. We will take an on demand assessment on Tuesday. This just lets me know what they already know and where I need to take them. Then we will spend some time talking about telling across fingers, sketch, then write, and getting ready to write by teaching a topic.

In Math we will wrap up Chapter 3 and quiz over chapter 3 on Friday. We have talked about the ways to add (count on, make 10, part part whole, using a number line to add, doubles and near double and fact families. We will also take a pretest over subtraction.

In Social Studies we will be taking about Geography

Peek at the Week

This week we will wrap up our Word Detectives Unit in Reading. We will focus on finding parts in a word we already know, rereading to make our reading smooth, paying close attention to punctuation, and scooping up our phrases.

In Writing we will wrap up our How to Unit as well. We will work on detailed pictures, choosing a book to revise, editing and getting ready to publish.

In Math, we will continue to work on our addition concepts. The skills we will focus on is use doubles to add, use near doubles, make ten, add in any order and add 3 numbers.

On Friday we will have our snap word test.

In Science we will talk about being a Scientist.
