Peek at the Week

On Monday, I will be collecting the reading minutes calendar for September. Please help by totaling the minutes this weekend. 

This week we will be testing over addition and counting to 120 in Math. The test will be on Wednesday. Ask your child to count to 120 for you. 

In Reading, we will be learning about how to read with a partner and working on some word study skills. We are working on stretching out words and hearing all the sounds. 

In Writing, we will start our new unit of "How To" writings. 

We will have our spelling test on Friday. 

It is custodians day and Family Trivia Night on Friday.

How it works:

Each month, students record the number of minutes read using the Student Tracker Form provided by the Blues. (I will send home the forms on Monday) Forms should be initialed by a parent/guardian and submitted to teachers. 

Students that read a total of 1,000 minutes or more by January 31 will score with a buy one, get one ticket voucher to the Blues Bookworms game of their choice on Monday, February 20 vs. Florida or Monday, March 27 vs. Arizona. Those students will be recognized as a group on the Scottrade Center scoreboard and will have the opportunity shoot on goal after the game. 

A special ticket discount will be available for family members, teachers and students that did not reach 1,000 minutes.

The overall top reader from each grade level will receive four (4) FREE Plaza Level Blues tickets to the Monday, February 20 vs. Florida game. The top readers will also be featured on the big screen during the game.

Peek at the Week

We have picture day on Wednesday at 10:40, but you never know if that time will change. 

We will have our spelling test this Friday over the snap words your child picked. Please remember they need to know how to spell them, not say them. 

In Reading, we will be finishing up with our Readers have good habits unit.

In Writing, we will be finishing up our small moments books. 

In Math, we will finish up chapter one, addition. Look for a study guide to come home on Monday of next week. 

The counselor will visit the class on Monday.

We are still doing our guided reading groups. Most groups meet daily. Please be looking for the manila envelope. There will be a book inside that your child can read to you.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone for ordering book orders!! We reached our goal of 10,000 bonus points. I used a bunch of the points and got books. As soon as the books arrive I will post pictures on the blog. We are so excited. Thank you so much!!!!

Today you will find 3 new papers in your child's leadership notebook under the goals tab. First you will see a salmon colored paper titled my snap words. These are the spelling words your child will work on at home and a little here at school. We will test over these 5 words on Friday. Next, you will find two pages of white paper titled  I am a super snap word leader. I have assessed your child on the these 2 pages of snap words (white papers). Please do not mark on these papers. We will do all the marks on them at school. 

Tomorrow some groups are ready to bring home a guided reading book. These will be in a laminated manila folder. Please read the book at home and send back the next day. Most students will get a book everyday.

Don't forget tomorrow is our reward for filling the marble jar. We will have 15 minutes of technology time.

Parents we filled the marble jar!!! The kids voted and they wanted to do electronic time. We will have 15 minutes of device time on Friday. If you choose not to send a device your child may bring in a game to play. We have games and some ipads in the room we will use during this time. Thanks so much for such a great start to the school  year.
