launch

This year Concord students will LAUNCH into learning about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).  As part of a pilot program at Lindbergh Schools, Concord and Dressel students will attend the Launch class during their block schedule about once a week.  The LAUNCH program is part of Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a curriculum that helps students use a design-thinking mindset to complete hands-on activities and challenges while collaborating with their peers and learning 21st century skills.  The PLTW curriculum is also available in the middle and high school so students can continue their learning as they grow.  More information about the Launch program can be found at https://www.pltw.org/our-programs/pltw-launch.  You can follow the Launch classroom at Concord by visiting the website and blog at http://concordlaunch.weebly.com/ or by following Concord Launch on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/concordlaunch/.  We look forward to a great year of STEM learning!

Dear First Grade Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year. My name is Mrs. Tara Hickel. I am so excited to be your child’s First Grade Teacher! First grade is an exciting year that is full of learning and growth. I am looking forward to working with you to help your child reach their full potential. This year will include fun field trips, lots of reading and tons of writing.
This is my 15th year teaching. I’ve worked in the St. Louis Public School System, the Northwest R-1 School District , and I am looking forward to finishing my career in the Lindbergh School District.  I graduated from Missouri Valley College, completed my Master at Lindenwood University, and finished my plus thirty. I am married to Tom and we have two boys. Tommy is 6 and Tyler is 3. We also have a dog named Indy. You will probably hear lots of stories about them as I love to share my life with the students.
As summer comes to an end, I look forward to meeting each of you at our Meet the Teacher/Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 15th. I highly encourage you to attend as it is a chance for your child to meet me, see where the room is located, see their classmates, and drop off all supplies.
To stay up to date with everything that is happening in our classroom, I encourage you to follow our classroom blog. I will be updating it often so you can feel connected to what we are doing. If you ever have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to email or call me. I hope you have a great rest of the summer.
Sincerely,

Mrs. Tara Hickel
